The opening cinematic, as well as the gameplay trailer for both the PS4 and 3DS version of the upcoming "Dragon Quest XI" game, were revealed during the Jump Festa 2017 convention.
According to Game Rant, as Jump Festa is one of the biggest anime and manga conventions in Japan, Square Enix made sure that its upcoming "Dragon Quest XI" title will garner more attention by releasing new information. The announcement was made through the introduction of the game's opening cinematic and gameplay trailers.
The opening cinematic has an old-school RPG feel through the introduction of each of the game's main characters as well as the enemies. Also, while some of the game's deeper mysteries were teased, the trailer further convinced game enthusiasts that the game will be impressive in terms of visual performance which complements Akira Tokiyama's style.
The gameplay trailer for "Dragon Quest XI" is another affair, as it is split into two different parts, with the first half featuring the PS4 version and the second half the Nintendo 3DS. There is significant differences to be gleaned for both games, but the difference is debatable. After all, the 3DS version is mapped using a 2D plane while the PS4 version uses a 3D one.
According to Forbes, the unique visuals of the game's PS4 version can be attributed to the use of the Unreal Engine 4. The game seems to have an open-world setup in this version, but the Nintendo 3DS variant also offers a different gaming experience, since it can be played in both 3D and 2D modes, with the latter being shown on the lower screen. However, the setup is only applicable to the first section, meaning that later in the game, the player can switch between the two modes.
"Dragon Quest XI" has a 2017 tentative release date in Japan for the PS4 and Nintendo 3DS.
