2017 smartphones, laptops, computers: Technology trends to watch out for

| Dec 27, 2016 12:31 AM EST

People walk past an advertisement for one of 2016's biggest tech releases: The Samsung S7 Edge.

Technology is now one of the biggest industries all around the world, which is why analysts are always looking for the latest and even upcoming trends to help people know what to watch out for. Tech analyst Tim Bajarin has recently released a list of tech predictions that he think will make an impact in 2017.

President-elect Donald Trump

First off, Bajarin believes that Donald Trump's election into presidency will have a large impact on the tech industry. President-elect Trump has recently held meetings with the chief executive officers of large companies such as Apple, Microsoft, and Tesla, Time reported. However, we have to wait and see whether the largely-against-Trump Silicon Valley will meet with the business tycoon in common ground to see both their agendas advance.

Augmented and Virtual Reality

Surprisingly, Bajarin also believes that augmented or mixed reality (AR) will make a more considerable impact compared to virtual reality (VR), which made massive waves in 2016. He believes that VR will be used in the "near future," but since Niantic's Pokémon Go introduced AR to a larger audience, the tides may yet again change. Reports also claim the Apple CEO Tim Cook has a larger interest in AR then VR for his company.

2-in-1 Computers

2-in-1 computers will take off after being released in the late part of this year, most notably by Microsoft. Convertibles (laptops that can turn into tablets with the removal of their keyboards) will also grow in popularity in 2017. Another expected trend is that car buyers will look for more smart features when purchasing an automobile in 2017. This could possibly be due to the research and development of self-driving vehicles.

Cybersecurity

Lastly, it is also believed that hackers and criminals will get smarter and become more skillful. It is now easier for hackers to break into accounts with the use of artificial intelligence (AI), New York Times reported. This is why it would be smart to invest in cyber security as soon as possible in order to protect not only technology, but also highly valuable personal information.
