The "NieR: Automata" demo has been released for the PS4 consoles. The brief sample of the game can be found in the PlayStation Store and can be downloaded for free.

"NieR: Automata" developer Platinum Games has released a 4.4 GB worth of demo for the game for the PS4 console. When the game demo went live, its description was updated, which basically now says that the players will control the androids 2B and 9S in their fight against powerful machine lifeforms that has overrun a machine-driven dystopia.

As promised by the developers, "NieR: Automata" will be a fresh new take on the action-RPG genre. This will be done through the use of a captivating and unique story complemented by a graceful action sequences, with the latter fluidly rendered at 60 fps even with hordes of enemies to be defeated within the game's fully open world, according to Game Spot.

The same article reports that Platinum Games, the same company that developed "Bayonetta" and "Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance" gave a brief overview about the demo's premise. In an earlier press release, the developer said that the demo mission will follow the android 2B in a mission to destroy the enemy's massive weapon that lies within an abandoned factory.

Square Enix's E3 2016 presentation has been centered around "Final Fantasy XV," as it took a decade's worth of development to bring one of the highly-acclaimed JRPGs in recent history, according to Game RantHowever, it seems that "NieR: Automata" did not really have much of a presence in the event. Nevertheless, the same article reports that once the game has been shown, the intrigue surrounding "NieR: Automata" and its main plot, setting, and protagonists has increased over time.

"NieR: Automata" will be released in North America on March 7, 2017 for the PS4. The PC launch is scheduled sometime later in 2017 with a possible Xbox One launch should demand be high enough.
