NetherRealm Studios confirmed the development of "Injustice 2" for the PS4, Xbox One and possibly for the PC.

New details for "Injustice 2" will feature a Co-op gameplay and diverse story mode, as well as the skill set of Supergirl in the sequel.

A new gameplay trailer for "Injustice 2" will feature the debut of the Girl of Steel and Superman's cousin Kara Danvers/Supergirl and her various skill set. IGN (via Gamerant) was able to explain Supergirl's various abilities in the gameplay video.

Supergirl's powers are comparable to her cousin Superman, but instead of being a brute-force brawler like Kal-El, Kara relies more on agility and a variety of combo moves to keep opponents on their toes.

For instance, Supergirl's combo called "The Last Daughter of Krypton" will help players get into the groove for a longer chain of hits, but if raw power is what players intend to use, Supergirl can also simply kick her enemies in the gut and throw them on their heads with a power bomb that can be used on its own or carried over into a greater combo.

Speed and agility are two of Supergirl’s major assets within "Injustice 2" as she can throw a furious flurry of punches with combinations like "Crossroads of Time". However, Kara's long range combat is what makes her a real threat due to her numerous projectiles like heat vision, freezing breath, and Kryptonian force tornadoes that open up the opportunity for higher hit combos and damages.

Supergirl's super move is called "Asteroid Shower", were in she grabs her opponent, flies them into outer space next to the sun, and blasts them back to Earth with her heat vision cutting through an asteroid belt, which causes the cosmic rocks to reign down onto the enemy from above.

Aside from Supergirl, other playable characters in "Injustcie 2" will include old favorites such as Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Aquaman, The Flash and Harley Quinn, as well as new characters like Blue Beetle, Deadshot, Atrocitus and Gorilla Grodd.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. Marketing Manager Brian Goodman teased new gameplay features for "Injustice 2" he told Gamereactor that both Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios are working on the structure of the sequel's storyline.

Goodman stated that they are going to make sure the plot for "Injustice 2" would be perfect story-wise and will have gamers play it again for the second time. Goodman added that they are a number of new single player modes for "Injustice 2", as well as a set of online game modes and even a co-op gameplay soon.

It was noted that the decision to include branching storylines within "Injustice 2" was not only for the sake of giving players replayability, but to enable the team to revisit certain events in the sequel and the whole DC Universe.

NetherRealm Studios previously addressed the concerns over the "Gear System" in "Injustice 2" as gaming fans fear that the use of it could make the game unbalanced. Goodman explained that he and the game developers anticipated the hesitation from the fans and claimed they are developing it "intelligently" to deliver something new and unique for both gaming and comic book fans.

Goodman admitted that the gear system could indeed give off an unfair advantage to some players, but there are game modes that will cater to the players concerns to make in balanced as possible.

The gear system allows players to upgrade each characters abilities and stats by unlocking several loot gears after a match, whether they win or lose a fight. Not only will it change the character's appearance, but will gain extra boost of powers and even unlock new ones.

It is rumored that "Injustice 2's" release date could fall under the months of January-March 2017 in GameStop's marketing plan alongside other video game titles such as "Mass Effect: Andromeda" and "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild".

It is also theorized that gamers will likely gain more interest in "Injustice 2" since Wonder Woman is included in the roster and with her solo film coming on June next year, the sequel will gain a huge boost of attention.

"Mortal Kombat" creator Ed Boon teased Sub-Zero and Spawn as guest characters, while he plans to add characters from the Watchmen mythos.

"Injustice 2" will launch sometime in 2017 for the PS4, Xbox One and PC platforms.
