WrestleMania 33 is less than four months away and speculations about the matches are starting to take over the internet. One of those matches is the WWE Universal Title Match between Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman.
As of this writing, Kevin Owens is still the WWE Universal Champion and he is set to defend the title against Reigns at the Royal Rumble. Several wrestling news outlets have reported that the WWE is planning to make The Big Dog champion heading to WrestleMania 33.
Owens is on a collision course with his former best friend Chris Jericho but they do not need the title to make the feud work. Many fans won't be happy with Reigns as Universal champion and they certainly don't like the idea of him facing Strowman at the biggest show of the year.
According to Blake Oestriecher of Forbes, the WWE is teasing the possibility of Strowman challenging for the WWE Universal Championship. The signs are all there as "The Black Sheep of The Wyatt Family" attacked Reigns, and Seth Rollins, in last week's Monday Night Raw main event.
The reasoning for it is simple: Vince McMahon wants Reigns to finally get over and he wants to sacrifice Strowman to do it. Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer noted on the latest episode of their radio show with Bryan Alvarez noted that the WWE was keeping Strowman strong just to feed him to Reigns.
"It's Roman Reigns vs. the big giant. Why do you think they did Roman Reigns vs. Big Show all those times? That's how you get a babyface over, he's gotta beat a big giant. It's Vince McMahon 101," Meltzer said.
"It didn't work the first time with Big Show, and he did it 55 more times. It doesn't matter if it doesn't work, Vince just thinks it works," he added.
The WWE still looks at Reigns as the next face of the company but they need to book him much better. He has the potential to be one of the biggest superstars ever and he needs to have some changes made to his character.
The three-time WWE champion has improved in the ring this year and his promos are not cringe-worthy anymore. A heel turn could be the best move for him but Vince just wants him to get over and he is willing to sacrifice another star with tremendous potential to make it happen.
