‘Pokemon Go’ latest news: Niantic shames critics with smart wearable edition

Niantic has officially released the "Pokemon Go" Apple Watch version, expanding game possibilities for avid augmented reality gamers.

Niantic recently rolled out the “Pokemon Go” Apple Watch version, putting to rest any qualms that the augmented reality company had to deal with recently. With the release, AR gamers can now get added assistance.

Among the things that the “Pokemon Go” Apple Watch version brings include discovering nearby Pokemon and item collection from PokeStops. In the event a Pokemon crops up, gamers will need to draw out their iPhones to engage and catch it, Los Angeles Times reported.

In essence, the “Pokemon Go” Apple Watch version is technically an extension for augmented reality gamers. It eliminates the need to have their iPhones in hand as they keep track of the things to do for the game through a simple glimpse of their Apple wearable.

Aside from monitoring the pocket monsters and collecting “Pokemon Go” items, the Apple Watch version can also keep track of their steps. This is important especially for players who embark on egg-hatching which returns added critters to their inventory, according to Pokemon Go Live.

The transition has been made easier thanks to some of the features of the Apple Watch. This includes the fitness-tracking capabilities of the wearable which are normally used to track calories burned and workouts.

The release of the “Pokemon Go” Apple Watch version comes at the right time since Niantic has ramped up the spawns and new critters available through egg-hatching. The “Santa-Hat Pikachu” has been making its rounds, not to mention the elusive “Ditto” and so on.

As far as egg-hatching is concerned, there are the new critters such as “Cleffa”, “Igglybuff”, “Magby”, “Elkid”, “Smoochum”, “Togepi” and “Pichu” which are available via egg-hatching. While these new critters are welcome, some were disappointed since most believed up to 100 new pocket monsters were being added this holiday season.

Then again, the insertion of these new critters could be just the beginning of something bigger. Seeing 100 new Pokemon seems a bit unrealistic considering there are still rares yet to be captured from the original batch.

Either way, the new developments under Niantic’s watch is welcomed by many as most look to nail down the elusive critters and stuff their inventories with lots of goodies.
