Rumors abound that "Winds of Winter" may release very soon. It is also expected that the last book in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" "A Dream of Spring" may be released along with "Winds of Winter."

The latest rumors regarding the sixth book in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series claim that the book is ready to be edited and will then hit the publishing house. It has been proofread and hence, it may release soon.

"Winds of Winter" is expected to release in January 2017 and it may have a very sad ending. Similarly, "A Dream of Spring" is also going to have a very bittersweet ending, according to Entertainment Weekly. Most of the key characters in "Winds of Winter" and "A Dream of Spring" are going to meet their end.

Author George R. R. Martin is aware of the delay in releasing "Winds of Winter" and he is also not happy about it. He has apologized many times on his blog for the delay and has attributed it to the numerous public appearances and his hectic social endeavours. He also released a few sample chapters for the benefit of his fans but they only heightened the anxious wait for "Winds of Winter."

The first book of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" was titled as "Game of Thrones," which is also the title of the TV adaptation of the book series. It was released in 1996 and it was followed by "A Clash of Kings," which was released in 1998. The third book of the series was "A Storm of Swords," which released two years later in 2000.

The delays in releasing the books started with the fourth book onwards. The fourth book was "A Feast for Crows" and it took five years to hit the shelves. The trend followed with "A Dance with Dragons," which released in 2011, according to iDigital Times. Hence, since the last five years, fans have been waiting anxiously for the sixth book.
