"Gremlins 3" was confirmed to happen in 2015 but since then, updates about have been scarce, until recently, when actor Zach Galligan talked about the third movie in an interview. According to the actor, the movie is in the works.
There had been talks that "Gremlins 3" will be a reboot and a remake but in an interview with Bleeding Cool, Galligan confirmed that the movie will indeed be a sequel. He said, "I think you can tell what's happening with Gremlins 3 the same way you could tell with Gremlins,"
Galligan added that "Gremlins 3" could involve the same group of people working in the same way. He reiterated what filmmaker Chris Columbus had already told the public that the upcoming movie will neither be a reboot nor a remake, but a sequel.
Columbus is "aggressively working" on the third movie, which will have a present day setting and introduce new and old characters, Galligan. In addition, a new writer has also been tapped to take care of "Gremlins 3's" story. Ideas for the third movie had been rejected and rewritten several times. It was revealed that one of the ideas rejected is "gremlins in Vegas."
As for the release date, it remains to be seen when "Gremlins 3" will hit cinemas but as Galligan revealed, Columbus, Steven Spielberg and Warner Bros. all want the movie to happen. It was even stated in the report that Columbus is determined to make the third movie because he did not like how "Gremlins 2" turned out. The renowned filmmaker even stressed during an interview with ComicBook in 2015 that the third movie will happen even if he is not involved with directing.
For now, fans cannot expect anything soon from the movie "Gremlins 3."
