The "Boba Fett" spin-off film was planned as the next "Star Wars Anthology" movie after "Rogue One" but it was shelved after director Josh Trank parted ways with Disney and Lucasfilm. The movie has not yet been permanently canned and information has surfaced indicating it may be back in production.

A listing for an "untitled Boba Fett" movie was recently listed on My Entertainment World, added in as one of the movies in development. No release date is listed and neither is a production date but the listing down include a synopsis.

"An origin story of the galaxy's most notorious bounty hunter. Boba Fett is a Mandalorian warrior who was trained by his father-figure Jango Fett and became a notorious bounty hunter throughout the galaxy," the synopsis reads.

Boba Fett did appear as a child in "Star Wars: Attack of the Clones" and as an adult bounty hunter he was in both "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi." More stories of his adventures were featured in books and video games, most of which are no longer considered canon to the "Star Wars" lore.

One of these books is the critically praised "Shadows of the Empire" novel by Steve Perry, which originally released in 1996. It was set before "Return of the Jedi" and focused on the adventures of a bounty hunter named Dash Rendar, who was hired to help locate the frozen Han Solo (Harrison Ford).

Boba Fett was featured in the book, along with other bounty hunters from the films, and even fought against Rendar. This would open the doors for the "Boba Fett Anthology" film to feature both his story and serve as an adaptation of the popular book.

It is also notable that before George Lucas sold the rights of "Star Wars" to Disney he had been working on a live-action series that was all about bounty hunters like Boba Fett. This project never pushed through due to Disney acquiring the franchise and focusing instead on a new sequel trilogy.

One of the main difficulties would be the need to feature a younger Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Han Solo. However, CGI de-aging has reached a point where these characters could appear seamlessly in the film, Cinema Blend reported.

This technique of de-aging a character has been done in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." CGI effects have also been done in the film to bring back Tarkin, a character played by the late Peter Cushing. This technique may be done for scenes that require Princess Leia.

Disney and Lucasfilm have yet to confirm if the spin-off film is indeed moving forward again. The trailer for the recent anthology film, "Rogue One," can be viewed below:
