The mysterious La Luchadora has popped back again on this week's episode of SmackDown Live. Many fans are wondering who is under the mask with rumored names likes Mickie James, Deonna Purrazzo, Tamina, Naomi and Eva Marie.
La Luchadora first appeared on the December 20, 2016 episode of SmackDown Live. She defeated SmackDown women's champion Alexa Bliss via submission. It was then revealed that Becky Lynch was the one under the mask.
However, La Luchadora showed up once again on the December 27, 2016 edition of SmackDown. She helped Alexa retain the women's title by distracting Becky and hitting her head on an exposed turnbuckle.
On this week's SmackDown, La Luchadora lost to Becky but it turned out that the women's champion was under the mask this time around. The real La Luchadora came out and helped Alexa attacked her rival, as recapped by WWE.com.
According to PWInsider (subscription required), Deonna Purrazzo is the woman under the La Luchadora mask. However, the report noted that she has not signed a deal with the WWE and a different superstar could be revealed as the real La Luchadora.
That superstar might be Mickie James, who recently signed a full-time WWE deal, and she reportedly will start on SmackDown Live, per Cageside Seats. James could be re-introduced in the main roster as the one making Becky's life a living hell.
James returned late last year at NXT TakeOver: Toronto. She challenged Asuka for the NXT women's championship but failed. She then agreed to a full-time deal to return and she will be assigned to the blue brand.
The 37-year-old superstar was under a WWE contract from 2003 to 2010. She returned to TNA wrestling and the independent circuit before being contacted by the WWE to return. James showed in her match against Asuka that she still got it.
The five-time women's and one-time Divas champion can help put over younger talent. She is also due for one or two more runs with the title. Nevertheless, she is back to maintain the competition and help the women's division move forward.
It should be noted that the identity of La Luchadora is still up in the air. Purrazzo might just be filling on for the superstar the WWE wants to be under the mask. Fans just have to tune in on SmackDown Live every Tuesday night.
