"Injustice 2" is releasing this May 16 for both PS4 and Xbox One. NetherRealm Studios Creative Director and "Mortal Kombat" co-creator Ed Boon tweeted the announcement and will be published byWarner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
The announcement comes a week after leaks indicated the game would release this coming March. Boon denied those leaks but he also did not confirm at the time if the date posted on Twitter was indeed the release date for "Injustice 2." Warner Bros. Later confirmed the latter, Gamespot reported.
Very little information has been released about the game since it was unveiled in 2016. Several characters have been confirmed, including Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman, Blue Beetle, Supergirl and newcomer Deadshot.
While the game is similar to the 2013 "Injustice: Gods Among Us" game, there are several key improvements. One of the newest additions is the Gear System, in which players can customize their heroes using equipment and costume pieces gained after each match.
These items can alter how a hero or villain plays, such as altering their speed or giving more combo opportunities. There will be a game mode where the equipment system is disabled, Dual Shockers reported.
It is also noted that more information regarding the game and its roster will be released as the release draws closer. No PC version has yet been officially unveiled and it is also uncertain if there will be a mobile version of the game will be released. The original game had a mobile port for both iOS and Android.
"Injustice 2" will follow the events of the first game and the defeat of High Councilor Superman. Batman and his allies are attempting to restore order and peace while also battling the remnants of followers trying to put Superman back in charge. Amidst all this chaos a new enemy will arise.
