The WWE teased a match between Bill Goldberg and Roman Reigns in last week's episode of Monday Night Raw. However, the company seems to be heading in a different direction based on the latest rumors.
Goldberg returned to Raw last week and he was the guest at "The Kevin Owens Show" hosted by KO and Chris Jericho, as recapped by WWE.com. Paul Heyman, Reigns and Braun Strowman also appeared but the high point of the segment was the staredown between Goldberg and "The Big Dog."
The segment and the show ended with Goldberg and Reigns spearing Strowman. The two superstars are already in the Royal Rumble and their paths might not cross paths at the event. Goldberg is in the Royal Rumble Match while Reigns will challenge Owens for the WWE Universal Championship.
According to Cageside Seats, the WWE is continuing the trend of teasing its fans. In one of the latest videos by in the company's YouTube channel, Goldberg and Reigns' were teased as a tag team move. Does it mean the WWE is planning a tag team match with Goldberg and Reigns are partners?
Maybe, maybe not but the WWE has been trying to make the "Road to WrestleMania" feel important. The Royal Rumble is looking stacked while SmackDown's Elimination Chamber PPV will reportedly be headlined by John Cena vs. A.J. Styles in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match.
It means Raw's Fastlane PPV needs a big match up and the WWE could easily put Goldberg and Reigns together. The two teaming up is a great selling point for the company and casual fans surely get hooked with it.
Another clue that might prove the theory is true is from a report by Daily Wrestling News. It is noted that Golberg is signed to wrestler for three dates. Two of those are the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 33 while the third one is at Fastlane.
Since Goldberg only wrestled for less than two minutes since his return, he will have ring rust. Getting into the Royal Rumble helps but working a longer match before WrestleMania 33 is going to be beneficial.
A tag team match is not a bad way to get Goldberg's legs back with Reigns working most of the match. It's almost sure that Strowman will be involved since he has a bone to pick with both superstars. His partner could be Lesnar himself to make the match even more appealing.
However, Lesnar might go "lazy" once again and decide not to do the match. The WWE can just get another heel to team with Strowman. Rusev is already damaged while The Big Show is still a babyface. Nevertheless, the WWE is preparing something big for its "Road to WrestleMania.
