When "Arrow" Season 5 returns to the small screens, avid fans will see a different and darker Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) in the CW series. Recently, showrunner Marc Guggenheim shared some interesting details about the said character, as well as his thoughts on a popular fan theory surrounding Felicity and her father.

With the Team Green Arrow's tech expert set to tap into her dark side in the back half of "Arrow" Season 5, a character from Felicity's past is set to help her in her personal vendetta against the mysterious Prometheus. Following the death of her boyfriend Billy (Tyler Ritter) in the CW series' midseason finale, Felicity will take an active role in catching the said villain.

Earlier spoiler news teased that Felicity will partner with a few people from her past who will lead her to take a darker path in her revenge plan. Many fans speculated that the said character might be her father, the Calculator (Tom Amandes).

However, Guggenheim shared in an interview with TVLine that the said fan theory is incorrect. It appears that showrunners are looking to introduce someone or something new in connection to Felicity's arc in the second half of "Arrow" Season 5.

Meanwhile, some fans might also have a hard time guessing the identity of the character who will play an important role in Felicity's turn to darkness. Guggenheim stated, "As with all things related to Arrow, it's not what you initially think it is, and it will ultimately relate to the season's overall theme of 'legacy.' But it will be very specific to Felicity."

In other news, avid viewers can look forward to more "Arrow" episodes until 2018. The CW announced its plans to extend the superhero series for a Season 6 run.

Recently, the CW head Mark Pedowitz shared in a statement, as obtained by TV Guide, that the early renewal announcement will help showrunners to iron out their next season roadmap. He added, "[It] gives us a solid base to build on for next season, with original scripted series to roll out all year long."

"Arrow" Season 5 will air its midseason premiere on Jan. 25 on the CW. Watch a teaser clip for the said episode below:
