When The CW announced the list of shows that has been renewed for a new season, "The Originals" didn't make the cut. Many think that it is probably because "The Originals" Season 4 is not going to premiere until March, while some think that it may be over for the supernatural-themed drama.
It has been long rumored that "The Originals" Season 4 may be the show's final run. The spinoff was not performing quite well as "The Vampire Diaries," and is beginning to be overshadowed by newer shows. With "The Vampire Diaries" coming to an end with its eighth season run, there are a lot of speculations regarding "The Originals" future.
"Julie [Plec] and I spoke ahead of time about this," Entertainment Weekly quoted the CW president Mark Pedowitz as saying. "'The Originals' has not yet premiered for the season. It'll probably be a discussion in May. I'm a big Julie Plec fan. I'm hoping 'The Originals' will continue. A lot of it will depend on performance," he added.
Meanwhile, "The Originals" Season 4 will have a big time jump as the show moves forward five years later. The show will introduce a grown up Hope Mikaelson, Klaus and Haley's daughter. She is the first of her kind, having all vampire, werewolf and witch blood running down her veins. She is expected to hold the key to saving Klaus.
"The Originals" Season 4 returns to The CW on March 17.
In other news, according to the same publication, The CW has renewed its DC roster "Arrow," "The Flash," "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" and "Supergirl" for another season next year. Comedies such as "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" and "Jane the Virigin" also got season renewals, as well as the long-running "Supernatural." The Jared Padelecki and Jensen Ackles-starrer will be in its 13th season, making it the longest-running show in The CW, beating "7th Heaven" that previously held the honor with 11 seasons.
"Early pickups of these seven series now allow our producers to plan ahead for next season, and gives us a solid base to build on for next season, with original scripted series to roll out all year long," Pedowitz said about the season renewal announcement for the shows.
