NVIDIA failed to show the highly anticipated GTX 1080 Ti at the Consumers Electronics Show 2017. Speculations suggest that they are waiting for the release of the AMD Vega GPUs in order to compete better.
The GTX 1080 Ti powered by the Pascal GPU will be bridging the gap between the 1080 and the new Titan X which is too expensive. With the right price tag and power, the new video card is expected to beat even the new AMD Vega GPUs.
During CES 2017, there was no new video card from NVIDIA. It is not that surprising considering that AMD took the spotlight with a sneak peek of the Vega performance. One representative from the MSI booth at CES 2017 told Tech Buyers Guru that the NVIDIA GTX 1080 Ti does exist but it will be launched later at PAX East 2017.
It would not be an unusual move for NVIDIA considering that the feedbacks for the AMD Vega demonstrations are mostly positive. Still, there are lots of hardcore gamers waiting for NVIDIA's card because it would hit the sweet spot for their build.
NVIDIA's 16nm GP102 Pascal GPU will be powering the GTX 1080 Ti but it will have reduced CUDA cores compared to the larger Titan X, Fudzilla reported. It is also expected to feature 10GB of GDDR5X VRAM which is 2GB more than the GTX 1080 has.
Gamers expect that it will be able to crank even today's AAA games to 4K with maximum settings. The 1080 currently delivers sub-60 frames per second which is still playable but not acceptable to some. AMD demonstrated that its Ryzen and Vega 10 GPU combo is able to run "Doom" 4K at around 70 frames per second which is certainly better than what the current 1080 can offer.
NVIDIA's GTX 1080 Ti specs and price should be expected at PAX East 2017. AMD's Vega GPUs should also revealed by then considering that they have already been demonstrated at CES 2017.
