T-Mobile confirmed that Nexus 4 will start receive Over-the-Air update of the 5.1 version of the Android OS starting Mar. 9. Android Geeks reported that Nexus 5 and 7 (2012) will be the first in line to receive the update.

The software upgrade has firmware code of LMY47D. Notification will be sent to the device and users can simply tap and download the software. Nexus users can also manually check their respective devices under Settings > About phone > System update > Check for system updates. The OS update will be rolled out in phases; thus, some users may receive it earlier than others.

Since the announcement of the Android 5.0 OS, users are clamoring about the different bugs and issues spotted in the software. The latest Android 5.1 Lollipop OS update brings stability and performance improvements as well as new features.

The following are only some of the new features included in the Android 5.1, according to Google's Android Blog.

HD Voice

One of the welcome additions in the Android 5.1 OS is HD Voice, which improved the audio quality in voice calling over 3G networks. Although Voice over LTE (VoLTE) offers high quality audio for voice calling, some carriers do not support LTE yet making the feature useless.

Device Protection

This particular feature connects the device to your Google account even during factory reset; this will help in retrieving data. Google said that Device Protection will be available on Nexus 6 and 9 and in gadgets shipped with Android 5.1.

Dual SIM Enhancements

Dual SIM users can now customize the dialer for each SIM to avoid confusion.

Notifications Improvements

The Android 5.0 Lollipop OS comes with faulty "toaster" notifications as it does not allow users to dismiss notifications for later. Android 5.1 changes this and users can now snooze the notification to be reminded later.

WiFi and Bluetooth Improvements

WiFi and Bluetooth were also improved that can be accessed through the quick settings menu.
