"Injustice 2" may be featuring the villain Darkseid as a playable character. The pre-order bonuses for the game went online on the Playstation Store, revealing an "Injustice 2" PS4 theme and the aforementioned villain. The product page was quickly removed and re-uploaded but now with all mentions of Darkseid removed.
Although the store page has been altered, a screenshot of the original upload has been shared on NeoGAF. The photo reveals that the official description for Darkseid refers to him as "one of the greatest villains in the universe."
Darkseid, in the DC comics, has often been portrayed as one of the most powerful enemies that even Superman cannot defeat him in a direct battle. Very often Darkseid can only be defeated when the Justice League members, such as Batman and Green Lantern, band together.
"Mortal Kombat X," another game from developer NetherRealm Studios, did feature a similar pre-order deal. The developers offered Goro, one of the most iconic villains in "Mortal Kombat" lore, as a pre-order bonus. Not long after the game launched the character was made available as paid DLC, Attack of the Fanboy reported.
This would mean Darkseid will not be a pre-order exclusive for long and may be available as DLC in the future. It is still uncertain how NetherRealm Studios will handle DLC packages for "Injustice 2" but it is expected to follow the same pattern done for "Mortal Kombat X," "Mortal Kombat XL" and "Injustice: Gods Among Us."
The developers tweeted a teaser showcasing Superman holding a corpse. The caption reveals the developers will give more details on Jan. 17, Tuesday and it is expected that this is when Darkseid will be officially unveiled for the game.
"Injustice 2" will release for the PS4 and Xbox One on May 16. iOS and Android versions are also in development. The official gameplay trailer can be viewed below:
