Sony has unveiled a new God of War video game during the E3 2016 event and it will feature Kratos and his son fighting Norse monsters and gods.

The latest details for the new "God of War" for the PS4 will feature the name of Kratos' son and Mjolnir and the Norse nine realms teased in the game.

It seems that the name of Kratos' son in the new "God of War" sequel has been revealed game director Cory Balrog confirmed via tweet that his name is Atreus.

Gamers who are curious as to what Atreus' name in the new "God of War" sequel, his name came from Greek origin which hints that is related somehow to Kratos’ past, which could be a factor that comes into play in the forthcoming title. Should that occur, then the game’s use of Norse mythology will more than likely loosely intertwine with the lore from Greece, Gamerant reported.

Kratos will be mentoring his son throughout the game as penance for his previous sins and must look out for him as a parent fearing his demigod status could corrupt his son. Balrog confirmed that Kratos' son is aware of his father's lineage, but does not know his past and so the game will feature more personal moments between the two.

Lead gameplay engineer Jeet Shroff stated in an interview that Kratos' son will be instrumental in the new "God of War" gameplay teasing that he is much more of a passive character. Gamers can direct Kratos' son in combat as Shroff stated that their is a a button that can summon the boy in battle, which sort of a twisted "Father and Son" bonding.

Gamers can upgrade the "Father and Son" feature as they progressed in the game as Shroff explained that the Kratos' son can go toe-to-toe with his father and even kill enemies on his own.

Meanwhile, Balrog teased that Kratos could likely wield Thor's hammer Mjolnir as a weapon in "God of War".

Balrog hinted that Mjolnir could act as an ultmate weapon similar to the Sword of Olympus fitting that Kratos would wield such a weapon in the future as he is now living in Norway and is now facing monsters and gods of Norse mythology, Gamingbolt reported.

In addition, Balrog added that Kratos and Atreus could visit all of the Nine Realms in Norse mythology in the future "God of War" sequels.

The new "God of War" will launch sometime in 2017 for the PS4.
