Finnish technology company Nokia has been particularly quiet on the hardware front over the past couple of years. However, they may make their return soon after reports have suggested that they will soon come out with the Nokia 8 smartphone.
The Nokia 8 was the device said to be used during the preview of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 chipset at the recently concluded Consumer Electronics Show (CES) held in Las Vegas, Nevada. It could be revealed as early as the Mobile World Congress trade show happening on Feb. 27.
Qualcomm is aware of the rumors floating around that their Snapdragon 835 demos make use of the alleged Nokia 8. However, the company was quick to deny these claims.
Qualcomm's public relations representative Catherine Baker told Nokia Mob that the reference device used for the demos was of their own design. Still, the Internet is running amok with leaks regarding the Nokia 8 along with its supposed specifications suggesting that the device will come in two variations: a regular as well as a higher-end model.
The more expensive variant comes with 6 GB of RAM as well as 64 to 128 GB of storage capacity, according to Tech Times. If the user deems this not to be enough, then a microSD card can also be supported.
The pricier Nokia 8 will also come pre-equipped with the Snapdragon 835 processor. It will also come with a 12 megapixel front-facing camera in addition to a 24 megapixel back camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and electronic image stabilization (EIS) to boot.
On the other hand, the more affordable version of the Nokia 8 will feature the Snapdragon 821 processor and 4 GB of RAM instead. Camera specifications for it have not yet been revealed, but will be on the lower end of the spectrum compared to the pricier model.
Both versions of the device will feature a Super AMOLED QHD display with a resolution of 2,560 by 1,440 pixels. It will have Carl Zeiss optics onboard just like the last few Nokia smartphones that came before it. Regarding its design, it will have unibody metal design without any physical buttons on the front.
