Thunder Lotus Games garnered a lot of attention following the launch of their 2015 game, "Jotun," which was met with critical praise. The developers are now working on a new, Metroidvania-type of game titled "Sundered" and have now launched a Kickstarter campaign for it.

It should be noted that as of the time of writing the Kickstarter page shows the campaign has already surpassed its intended goal of CA$25,000 or $19,000 USD. It has currently earned over CA$37,000 with over 1,234 backers and a month left for its campaign.

Pledge rewards include having the backer's name featured in the credits, a copy of the official soundtrack, free digital copy of "Jotun," a digital art book, a limited physical version of the copy solely for PC and more. Pledging over CA$250 also guarantees being featured in the game as a fallen Valyrie Elite Soldier or as a fallen Eschaton Fanatic.

"Sundered" is already receiving a lot of attention and praise for its hand-drawn art and its spin on the Metroidvania-type of gameplay mechanics. Unlike traditional games of this genre, "Sundered" utilizes a mixture of structured level designs and procedurally generated levels.

Core sections will be pre-designed, allowing the developers to present some puzzles and boss fights the exact way they intend. However, other areas are procedurally generated which guarantees each play through of the game is going to be different experience.

In "Sundered," players take control of the character Eshe. She stumbles upon a cavern which houses the power that caused the destruction of the world. Players will then traverse through the dungeons to solve the mysteries of past events while also trying to escape.

The core gameplay mechanic is that Eshe can either resist or embrace the corruption around her. Like other Metroidvania games, Eshe will gain abilities that will allow her to access new locations in the map.

However, at certain points Eshe can either resist the corruption or embrace it to make her abilities more powerful. The ending of the game will change, depending on whether Eshe takes in the madness or tries to hold on to her humanity.

This is not the first time Thunder Lotus Games turned to Kickstarter, Dual Shockers reported. The developers did launch a campaign for "Jotun" and too surpassed its initial goal. The developers do explain that the goal of the Kickstarter campaign is not just for additional funding but to have a stronger means of communicating with the fans.

"Sundered" is scheduled to launch for the PS4, PC, OS X and Linux by July this year. The Kickstarter video can be viewed below:
