The latest build of Android 7.0 Nougat, or more correctly OxygenOS 4.0.2, is now live (again) for OnePlus 3 and 3T users. The OS upgrade deployment is available over the air or OTA and via manual download, in which case OP3/3T users will need to manually flash the firmware.

The release is actually the third try from OnePlus as the first two deliveries were plagued by bugs and instability. So as expected, this instalment comes with further bugs fixes for increased system stability. For the most part, "APN settings have been updated for select carriers, the proximity sensor bug during calls was fixed, as was the Google Play Store download bug," according to GSM Arena.

But there will be lingering issues as OnePlus admitted that even after the Nougat jump has been successfully installed the OP3 and OP3T will still experience fluctuating Wi-Fi connection. There's no telling when the problem will be resolved or when exactly OnePlus plans to issue the follow up to OxygenOS 4.0.2.

For users' reference, here is the official changelog provided by company:

  • Upgraded to Android 7.0 Nougat
  • New Notifications Design
  • New Settings Menu Design
  • Multi-Window View
  • Notification Direct Reply
  • Custom DPI Support
  • Added Status Bar Icon options
  • Improved Shelf Customization
  • Updated APN Settings for select Carriers
  • Fixed Proximity Sensor bug during calls
  • Fixed Google Play Store download bug
  • Increased System Stability

GSM Arena also reminded on its report that Nougat for OP3 and OP3T will be a phased deployment, which means the distribution will pick up pace in the coming days.

But for the impatient, options are out there to download and manually install the update. Courtesy of Androidsage.com, links are available for users to trigger the OTA update process or get the full ROM zip files that can be unpacked and then manually flash.

The same report indicated that one way to get the update notification from OnePlus is to use a VPN in order to trick the update server that one is found on the locations - that would be Canada and Germany at the moment - where the update is now rolling out. This can be done easily by getting the Opera mobile browser and take advantage of its built-in VPN features.

As for the manual flashing route, Androidsage.com also shared its easy guide on the subject that covers too on restoring and rooting the OnePlus 3 and 3T in order to fully enjoy the Android 7.0 Nougat or OxygenOS 4.0.2 experience.
