New York Police Arrest Chinese Stand-Up Comedian Zhou Libo For Illegal Possession Of Guns & Cocaine

Zhou Libo, a Chinese comedian, host and actor trended on Sina Weibo on Friday following his arrest in New York. He was reportedly arrested for illegal possession of guns and cocaine.

The comedian, who was with another man while driving around Long Island, were stopped by police for using their phones while driving. When authorities inspected their vehicle, it yielded firearms and drug, What’s on Weibo reported.

Did Not Resist Arrest

The World Journal identified his companion who was with Zhou Libo on his black Mercedes as Shuang Tang. Whenthey were arrested on the morning of Jan. 19, his car yielded two bags of crack cocaine and a Colt Mustant 0.38 caliber pistol. The two did not resist arrest.

Zhou Libo used to be a judge on “China’s Got Talent” and hosted “Mr. Zhou Live Show” from 2010 to 2015, considered the first comedy talk show in China. He holds record as the first comedian from China to perform at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in Manhattan.

Netizens Drop Support

However, following reports of his arrest, Chinese netizens dropped their support for Zhou Libo. Some of them wrote on Weibo that all celebrities who use drugs should be shut out. The Communist Youth League pointed out that Zhou Libo once even said on his TV show that he would never do drugs.

Another netizen wrote he is happy that Zhou Ligo would no longer be seen on TV and he deserves being imprisoned for using drugs. Other said the comedian lacks morals and they hate him.

The two men are facing illegal possession of controlled substances, weapons and firearms and also illegal use of phones while driving. They appeared in court on Jan. 20. They posted bail and would appear in court on March 9.
