Sony Xperia Z5 release in September?

Sony Xperia Z4 may battle head on with Apple's iPhone in September.

Some Sony fans were disappointed after the device went missing in action at the recent Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last week.

According to tech website ITProPortal, the Xperia Z4 will arrive in September as the Japanese tech company is looking into a one-year cycle for its flagship smartphone after the previous Xperia handsets suffered low sales.

If rumors proved to be true, the Sony Xperia Z4 will most likely be announced at the annual IFA tech even in Berlin. The handset will also face-off devices from tech giants like Apple's iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy Note

Originally, Sony updates the line every six months. Consumers expressed dissatisfaction that the handset is outdated after half a year. Moreover, the new smartphone lacks innovation or major updates. Thus, buyers lose interest in the new Sony smartphones.

The release of Xperia smartphones once a year is also due to the rumors that Sony will pull the plug on its unprofitable mobile arm, according to The Globe and Mail quoting unnamed Sony officials that are familiar with the matter. Sony also let go of its money-losing laptop division, Vaio.

However, Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai denied the rumors of selling the company's mobile division. He added that the company is committed to making the Xperia Z4, but there will be slightly less mobile devices to be released this year.

The delayed release will allow the company to work more on the features of the upcoming smartphone. The Sony Xperia Z4 is rumored to pack 5 inch screen display with 2K pixel resolution, octa core Snapdragon 810 processor paired with Adreno 420 GPU, 4 GB of RAM, and 24 MP rear camera and 12 MP front-facing camera. The smartphone is also rumored to include unique Sony features such as PlayStation Remote Play and IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.
