A new Microsoft Surface Book sits on display at a media event for new Microsoft products on October 6, 2015 in New York City.

Microsoft Surface Book is now available with an irresistible discount of $200. Recent discounts on the 2-in-1 notebook hint that the Surface Book 2 release date may be close at hand.

The Surface Book was officially unveiled to the world in October 2015. The 2-in-1 notebook is available in multiple storage options and RAM variants.

According to MS Power User, the entry-level non-GPU version of Surface Book is now available with a massive price cut of $200. This variant is powered by Intel Core i5 processor and 8 GB of RAM. Its native storage is 128 GB.

The usual price of this variant is $1,499. However, with a discount of $200, the 2-in-1 notebook can be availed for $1,299 on Microsoft Store. It features a 13.5-inch PixelSense display that offers a resolution of 3,000 x 2,000 pixels.

At the start of this year, the Redmond giant had offered $150 discount on 128 GB and 256 GB storage variants powered with Intel Core i5. The offer came to an end on Jan. 21.

The recent discount on the Surface Book has given hints to the rumor mill that Microsoft will soon announce its second-generation model. The arrival of the alleged Surface Book 2 seems to be all the more imminent as Intel has announced the 7th generation Intel Kaby Lake processors. The new Intel chip is expected to power the Surface Book 2 device.

Since the original Surface Book features a very high resolution display, speculations are rife that the 13.5-inch screen of Surface Book 2 will carry support for 4K resolution. The device is expected to include a larger battery as 4K resolution display is known to consume more power.

The original Surface Book was launched with standard USB ports. However, Intel Kaby Lake powered Surface Book 2 is expected to feature a USB Type-C port.

The Surface Book 2 is expected to appear like its predecessor model. However, the new 2-in-1 notebook will be equipped with a new hinge system in order to resolve the gap issue of the first-generation model. The Redmond giant is expected to unleash the device in March 2017.
