'Jurassic World' sequel casts 'The Detour' star Daniella Pineda

The "Jurassic World" sequel is currently preparing to enter production and its list of cast members continue to grow. It has now been confirmed that "The Originals" star Daniella Pineda has been cast for the film.

Pineda will be playing one of the female lead roles, Variety reported. The exact nature of her character is still unknown.

The actress is primarily known for playing Sophie Deveraux in both "The Originals" and "The Vampire Diaries." She also played Vanessa in "The Detour," Phaedra in "High Maintenance" and as Ruby Simms in "American Odyssey."

Plot details are also being kept in the dark. Wide speculations suggest it will involve genetic dinosaurs becoming more widespread across the world. The first film established that there was interest to use the dinosaurs for military purposes.

She will be joined by actors Toby Jones, Rafe Spall and Justice Smith. Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt will be reprising their roles from the first film. B.D. Wong, who plays genetic scientist Dr. Henry Wu, is also expected to return.

The "Jurassic World" sequel will be helmed by J.A. Bayona, who is known for directing "The Impossible" and "A Monster Calls." The film will be produced by Frank Marshall, Belen Atienza and Pat Crowley.

"Jurassic World" broke multiple records when it first released in 2015, earning $208 million domestically during its opening weekend. This record was only surpassed by "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." "Jurassic World" would go on to make $1.67 billion worldwide.

Colin Trevorrow, who helmed the first movie, penned the script with collaborator Derek Connolly, Comic Book Movie reported.Trevorrow is currently signed on to helm "Star Wars Episode IX."

The "Jurassic World" sequel is scheduled to release on June 22, 2018. The trailer for the first film, which also serves as the fourth in the "Jurassic Park" franchise, can be viewed below:
