China Leads Other Countries in Asia's 50 Best Restaurants List

More and more Chinese diners are in on the trend, as more people favor online reservations across the country.

At least 16 restaurants from China were honored on March 9, Monday, at a ceremony held in Singapore for the annual Asia’s 50 Best Restaurant list.

The Strait Times reported that about 500 chefs, restaurateurs, sponsors and media attended the award, which is now on in its third year.

The event is supported by the Singapore Tourism Board and sponsored by several companies including Acqua Panna and S. Pellegrino.

Gaggan in Bangkok and Narisawa in Tokyo topped the Asia awards list, taking the first and second place, respectively.

Shanghai's Ultraviolet by Paul Pairet took the third spot.

Two Hong Kong restaurants were among the top 10. They are Amber at sixth and 8-1/2 Otto E Mezzo Bombana at eighth.

Restaurants in Beijing or Taipei did not make it to the top 50, although Le Mout, in Taichung, was ranked 26th in the list.

The other China-based restaurants mentioned in the top 50 include the following:

Fu 1015, Shanghai (16th)

L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon, Hong Kong (18th)

Fu He Hui, Shanghai (19th, making the list for the first time)

Lung King Heen, Hong Kong (20th)

Mr & Mrs Bund, Shanghai (21st)

Robuchon au Dome, Macao (23rd)

Bo Innovation, Hong Kong (28th)

28 HuBin Road, Hangzhou (34th)

The Chairman, Hong Kong (35th)

Caprice, Hong Kong (42nd)

Hakkasan, Shanghai (46th, first time on the list)

Organizers told media that the event aims to provide food lovers and diners with a definite guide to the great places to eat across the continent.

Aside from China, the countries that participated in the competition include restaurants from Japan, India, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Macau and Thailand. This year, new entries came from the Philippines and Cambodia.
