'Overwatch' cheats: More Korean players are banned from Blizzard game for cheating

'Overwatch' is a team-based multiplayer first-person shooter video game developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment.

Because "Overwatch" Korea is plagued by cheaters, Blizzard has banned 20,000 players in the region alone. It is part of Blizzard's promise to take drastic measures to ensure that cheaters are punished.

According to the official South Korean Blizzard Forum, the South Korean players were banned due to the use of illegal hacking methods. The widespread sanction follows the initial 10,000 bans issued by the company a few weeks ago.

Blizzard's efforts in keeping South Korea's "Overwatch" community seem to be ineffective since hacks and cheats such as aimbots are rampant, according to Game Rant. Recently, players started using another hack called nuking, a practice that lets cheaters use their enemies' control systems to ensure victory.

The bans do not deter cheaters from continuously ruining the legitimate players' experience. This means that it might be time for the company to stop playing whack-a-mole and address the problem at its roots.

South Korean cheaters do not seem to be perturbed by the prospect of re-purchasing the game and registering a new account after being banned. This is considering the number of accounts already banned from the region.

Blizzard cannot do much other than to keep banning cheaters repeatedly. As such, it could be possible that frustrated South Korean players to stop playing "Overwatch" if the rampant cheating is left unchecked.

However, aside from banning cheaters, Blizzard still hopes to keep its 25 million players gaming community engaged by other means. So far, the company is doing its utmost to keep the game fresh by releasing wave after wave of new updates.

In 2017 alone, the company has already given a plethora of content, such as the new map Oasis and character customization options. Also, the Year of the Rooster event gave new cosmetic items and other game features.

"Overwatch" is available for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Here is the latest video for the game:
