John Cena put on one of the best performances of his professional wrestling career after he defeated AJ Styles to become a 16-time world champion. While this feat is extraordinary, it is not unprecedented. WWE legend and Hall of Famer Ric Flair is currently tied with Cena for the most world title wins (16) in WWE history.
After tying this record, Cena noticeably went up to and exchanged a few words with referee Charles Robinson. Robinson had been a referee since the early 1990s and idolized Flair back when he was growing up. Now, he has revealed what Cena told him after the match with Styles.
"We were just talking about how cool it was that I've [refereed] for Ric Flair so many times and now I'm refereeing his 16th title and tying [it] up with Ric. He thought that was pretty freaking cool," Robinson told WWE.com. He added that he considers being the referee in this historic matchup a top honor in his career, as he considers Cena to be one of the greatest wrestlers of all time.
Robinson also revealed in the interview that he toe his plantar fasciitis early on in the match. However, he refused to be replaced, as he did not want to miss out on being part of such a historic event in wrestling history. Aside from officiating Cena vs. Styles, Robinson was also the referee in both Shawn Michaels' and Ric Flair's respective final matches.
In other news, Brock Lesnar, or more specifically Paul Heyman, had some choice words for Goldberg. Lesnar has never defeated Goldberg in singles competition in two attempts and has now issued a final challenge to his rival. The first time Goldberg beat Lesnar was back in WrestleMania 20 and the second was when they faced off at the 2016 edition of Survivor Series, a match that lasted only one minute and 26 seconds.
Goldberg recently eliminated Lesnar from the 2017 Royal Rumble, which proved to be a catalyst for a face off between the two at WrestleMania 33, according to Cage Side Seats. Goldberg has responded on his official Twitter account, stating that he will give his answer to the challenge on the upcoming edition of Monday Night Raw.
