Sporting Gijon has not won a match since their 3-1 win over Osasuna in early December. As a result, the team has dropped to the bottom three relegation zone, 18th in the 20-team league table, only three points above the bottom two teams Osasuna and Granada.

The Rojiblancos are coming off a 1-2 defeat to middling team Athletic Bilbao on the road at the San Mamés Stadium last Sunday for their fifth loss in the last six rounds, as per Football España.

Croatian striker Duje Cop opened the scoring for head coach Rubi's squad in the 27th minute of the match with a successful spot kick off a foul by Spanish defender Eneko Boveda inside the penalty area.

Sporting took the one-point until the halftime break, but Los Leones was able to score twice in the second half to turn the tables on their visitors.

Spanish midfielder Iker Muniain leveled the count in the 50th minute with a right-footed shot from the center of the box coming from a cross by teammate Iñaki Williams. Spanish forward Aritz Aduriz then took the lead for Bilbao with his own penalty kick in the 71st minute to hand Gijon their 13th loss of the season.

Meanwhile, Alaves was able to hold powerhouse team Atletico Madrid to a 0-0 draw at their home ground of Mendizorrotza Stadium in their most recent fixture on Jan. 28, Daily Mail Online reported.

Head coach Mauricio Pellegrino's boys held their own against the star-studded Atletico side, preventing Los Colchoneros to score any goals in the contest but at the same time failing to score one themselves.

It was the fourth straight winless performances for the Babazorros, though, as they are now in the 12th spot of the league table, 11 points above Sporting and the bottom three relegation area.
