More than a year after the video of a mutant piglet born in China with a human face and penis on the head went viral, another mutant animal was born in Shenyang on Thursday, Feb. 2.

GBTimes reported that a cat gave birth to a kitten with two heads, three eyes and two months. To keep the mutant kitten alive, Xiao Wei, owner of a business that breeds cats and dogs in Liaoning Province, said he feeds the animal powdered milk every three hours.

Liter of 5 Kittens

Although he has seen many of the animals on his animal breeding business give birth, Xiao Wei said he was surprised with the birth off the kitten with two heads from a litter of five kittens. He has heard of the possibility that such kinds of cats – called Janus cat – could be born, he did not expect it would happen on his business.

The possibility of a mutated kitten – called a Janus cat – being born has a probability of one in a million. Experts say the mutation is likely due to infection, medicine or radiation. Janus is used to name such animals in reference to the Roman god who is often depicted in mythology as being two faced.

Viral Photo

After Xiao Wei posted on WeChat an image of the two-faced kitten, the image became viral. However, some questioned if the photos were not the product of digital manipulation. He also live streamed the kitten which Xiao Wei said could eat with only one mouth which is also capable of making sounds. Xiao Wei promised to take good care of the two-headed Janus kitten and not to sell it, Express reported.

Most Janus cats normally live only for a few days. The Guinness World record-holder for a two-headed cat Franklouie which lived for 15 years until it died in December 2014.
