The long wait is finally over for "Orange is the New Black" fans, as Netflix has already announced the official release date of Season 5. The announcement was made via Twitter and came with a teaser video for the upcoming season, featuring the fan-favorite inmates in the series.

On YouTube, the promo video is captioned "Things will never be the same." On Twitter, it is captioned "There is no turning back." The ominous messages reportedly have something to do with the major cliffhanger in the Season 4 finale.

Season 4 ended with a riot. Following the death of Poussey, the prisoners coming from different factions started to run amok. The rioting prisoners descended at the entrance of the prison where a guard with a hidden gun was situated. However, this gun quickly fell out of his hands. It turned out that the guard was Daya.

As of now, Netflix remains mum about the events in the upcoming season. However, in an interview with E! Online at the SAG Awards 2017, Danielle Brooks revealed that the events in all the 15 episodes of Season 5 would happen in just three days. She teased that fans can expect the new season to be a lot more exciting, given the higher stakes and the compressed time.

"I think the stakes are higher in this season than they have been in a while just by virtue of the compressed time and seeing people in compressed circumstances really raises the stakes. It's exciting to watch, I think for all of us," echoed Taylor Schilling in a separate interview.

Meanwhile, Dominic Patten told Deadline that the previous season was still fresh and thus binge-worthy. It can be recalled that Season 4 opened with Piper serving as a prison warlord and ended with an inmate testing a gun on a pair of jail guards down on their knees.

"Orange is the New Black" Season 5 is expected to pick up where Season 4 left off. The new season premieres on June 9 on Netflix.
