Gabriel Belmont (Dracula) and son Trevor Belmont (Alucard) finally meet in 'Castlevania: Lord of Shadows 2.'

Netflix will be releasing the unexpected "Castlevania" animated series later this year. Popular comic book writer Warren Ellis will be penning the show which will be produce by Adi Shankar and Kevin Kolde.

"Castlevania" is one of the most loved video game franchises across platforms. It has evolved since its very first title in 1986 by Konami which feature the player killing demons, ghouls and so much more inside a large castle.

Now, Netflix is surprisingly making an original animated series based on the lore of the video game. Shankar told Collider that Netflix's "Castlevania" will have a "Game of Thrones" vibe for the show.

"It's great," said Shankar. "I love it. Sometimes you work with them officially, like Konami, you make Castlevania and it's the real thing."

From the show's official synopsis, the animated series will revolve around the last living member of the Belmont clan. Vlad Dracula Tepe will be posing as the villain, although there is still no plot that was disclosed.

Netflix will be releasing more than one part of the "Castlevania" TV series with the first one launching later this year, Forbes has learned. There will be four episodes per part with the running time still a mystery.

The voice actors that will be joining the cast of Netflix's "Castlevania" are still unknown. However, more updates from the showrunners are expected to surface in the following months or weeks leading up to the release.

Wow! Unlimited Media Company and Frederator Studios will be involved in the project. Fred Seibert will also be joining the producers for the show.

"Castlevania" from Netflix may offer the backstory first of the Belmont clan before diving into the vampire-killing business. Fans know that the franchise involves a lot of violence and gore with monsters. Trailers for the upcoming animated series are expected to pop up soon.
