Josh Boone, director of the upcoming "X-Men" spin-off film titled "New Mutants," has tweeted a piece of concept art for the movie. The art is a rendition of "Game of Thrones" actress Maisie Williams as the mutant Rhane Sinclair aka Wolfsbane.
Williams has been rumored to play the character for a few weeks but neither the actress nor 20th Century Fox have confirmed her participation in the movie. Boone's tweet now indicates that she has indeed been cast in the role although this is not yet a definite confirmation. The director also teased the film's potential line-up of mutants last year. Back in spring 2016, he released a photo via Instagram teasing Wolfsbane with Mirage, Magik, Cannonball and Sunspot. It is still unverified if this is indeed the roster for the movie or if other mutants will be added.
Other rumored cast members for the film include Anya-Taylor Joy and Nat Wolff. Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp and fellow "Game of Thrones" star Sophie Turner are all expected to reprise their roles as Cyclops, Storm and Jean Grey respectively, Gamespot reported.
The latter three appeared in "X-Men: Apocalypse." James McAvoy is also expected to return in some capacity as Professor Charles Xavier. None of the actress have yet confirmed they will be in the film but are widely speculated to further connect "New Mutants" to the main movies.
No official plot has yet been announced by the studios. However, it is widely speculated that it will depart from the traditional superhero formula and instead be marketed as a "teen horror movie" involving mutants and the "X-Men."
Production for the movie will begin this coming April or May, /Film reported. No release date has yet been announced but it is expected to release in 2018. The trailer for "X-Men: Apocalypse," the most recent film in the franchise, can be viewed below:
