With the Samsung Galaxy S8 directly competing with iPhone 8 in a few months, the standoff between the next-generation flagships of Samsung and Apple will soon grow even more intense. Samsung is expected to announce the next-generation Galaxy S8 models by the end of March, and the new smartphone is said to be a game changer for the tech giant.

According to Fox News, Galaxy S8 will feature 5.8 and 6.2-inch displays, which are considerably bigger than the current models. It is also rumored to be the first Samsung smartphone with a standardized curved organic light-emitting diode (OLED) "dual-edge" display, which means that it will have a bigger display area without affecting the size of the phone.

Samsung is also rumored to shrink the bezels on the top and bottom of the phone to cover the front of the handset with more display area. On the other hand, Apple is expected to cut down on the size of iPhone 8 by doing away with its unnecessary parts, particularly the top and bottom bezels. If this is true, then this means that the iPhone 8 will no longer carry the iconic Apple Home button.

As for Samsung, it will also reportedly ditch the physical home button and replace it with a software button. Also, its fingerprint sensor will be moved to the back of the phone.

For both the iPhone 8 and Galaxy S8, ditching the home button is not a first. Previously, Google released Google Pixel which also featured zero physical home button and fingerprint sensor on its back.

As noted by Evan Blass of Venture Beat, Galaxy S8's new processors will also boost the overall performance of the phone by as much as 11 percent while ironically being more energy efficient. He wrote, "That improved power consumption will be critical, because despite the vastly increased display sizes, battery capacity is said to be relatively conservative for the 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch designs, respectively."

Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to go on sale on April 21, while iPhone 8 is rumored to be released in September. Watch the features of Samsung Galaxy S8 here:
