The latest NBA trade rumors have revealed that the New York Knicks have made Derrick Rose available with the deadline just days away. Rose is no longer the player he once was after multiple knee surgeries since 2012.
However, the 28-year-old former MVP is still a better player than most point guards in the NBA. He is still a serviceable starter and he is averaging 17.7 points per game in his first season with the Knicks.
According to Ian Begley of ESPN, the Knicks are talking to several teams regarding a possible trade for Rose. Here are the three possible destinations for Rose before the trade deadline on Thursday, February 23.
Detroit Pistons
The Pistons are rumored to be looking to unload Reggie Jackson before the trade deadline. Maxwell Ogden of FanSided believes that Detroit is a possible trade partner for the Knicks. The Pistons finally dumps an unwanted player while the Knicks get a starting point guard on a team-friendly deal.
However, the salaries of both players don't match so the Pistons have to include an additional player like Boban Marjanovic, who has not been part of the team's rotation as of late. With Rose being a free agent at the end of the season, the Pistons will have the money to sign valuable free agents this summer.
Orlando Magic
Another team that is desperate to make changes at point guard is the Orlando Magic. The Knicks are just looking to dump some salary while the Magic really don't know what to do next with their franchise. They could also just dump the salaries of D.J. Augustin and Jeff Green to New York.
The Knicks get a cheaper alternative at point guard in Augustin with Brandon Jennings looking for a big contract. On the other hand, Green is a good fit in New York and Jeff Hornacek might unlock the former fifth overall pick.
Minnesota Timberwolves
According to Begley, the Timberwolves have an interest in acquiring Rose. The former MVP has ties in Minnesota in head coach Tom Thibodeau. The Timberwolves are rumored to be looking to unload Ricky Rubio and the two teams can just swap point guards.
Minnesota is looking for a temporary point guard until Kris Dunn is ready to start. Rose is that player and he can also add scoring to the offense that will miss Zach LaVine's production. Nevertheless, these are just rumors and suggestions at the moment.
