‘Chicago Justice’ updates: ‘American Pie 2’ star Joelle Carter plays Laura Nagel

In 2001, Joelle Carter was seen in the opening scene of "American Pie 2," which stars Jason Biggs, Sean William Scott and Alyson Hannigan. Fifteen years later, Carter was tapped to play Laura Nagel in "Chicago P.D."

Recently, Carter reprised the role of Laura in "Chicago Justice," which premiered on ABC on March 1. The character is a State's Attorney Investigator, who in a way is married to her job, the actress said in an interview with Parade.

According to Carter, she and Laura and the same in many ways, first of which is being a strong survivor. The actress, who is a Georgia native, said she understands the struggles of her "Chicago Justice" character with her custody case although hers is a lot more amicable.

Carter and former husband Andy Bates, the cinematographer, editor and producer of the Elvis Presley documentary "Altered by Elvis," were divorced in 2016. They have an adopted daughter named Luna Rose Bates.

For Carter, she is very lucky that she and Bates came to a place where they found a very nice way to share their daughter. However, the situation is different for her "Chicago Justice" character, who is very dedicated to her job while dealing with the fear of losing her rights as a parent.

Before playing Laura, Carter played Ava Crowder in "Justified." One of her co-stars is "Santa Clara Diet" actor Timopthy Olyphant.

Among Carter's co-stars on "Chicago Justice" are Jon Seda, Philip Winchester, Monica Barbaro, Carl Weathers, Andre Bellos, Daniel Craig Baker, Jatone Smith, Jason Beghe, Sal Velez Jr.m Teal Wicks, Tim Kazurinsky, Steve Bernstein, David Eigenberg, Harley Jo, William E. Smith and Daria Vyaersi. In an interview with Michigan Avenue magazine, Carter said she really loved the dynamic she and Seda "have been able to create out on the streets."
