Rappers Drake, Eminem, and Lil Wayne perform onstage during the 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards held at Staples Center on January 31, 2010 in Los Angeles, California.

Released on Oct. 22, 2002, "Lose Yourself" made history in 2003 as the first rap song to receive an Academy Award. The recipients of the award were Luis Resto, Jeff Bass and "Rap God" rapper Eminem.

Resto, Bass and Eminem collaborated on the music of the song. It was Eminem who wrote the lyrics.

In a recent interview with Billboard, Bass was asked if anything in "Lose Yourself" changed from the time they started working on it until the time it was completed. The music producer revealed that the main guitar in the song was the original piece.

However, there were rock, distorted guitars at the choruses that were taken out and replaced with keyboards, Bass revealed. The song had more touches of rock music than it turned out, the music producer added.

Bass was also asked if the guitar is the most special aspect of "Lose Yourself." He said the chunky guitar in the song goes really well with the drums that were done and for him, it rolls in a very motivating way.

The guitar in "Lose Yourself" is not very difficult but what is special about it is the way it "kind of grab your soul and don't let go," Bass pointed out. He added that in the last 15 years, professional athletes have been using the song as a motivational song while they are pumping up and getting ready for a swim or a game.

Apparently, part of Eminem's success is a series of collaborations. One of his most recent collaborations is a song by Big Sean titled "No Favors," in which he is a featured artist.

While many fans liked the collaboration song, some criticized it particularly the verse by Eminem. Sean talked about this in an interview with Gigwise.

"Everybody has an opinion," Sean said. "I didn't do it to try and please peoples I did it because I thought it was hard and because I liked it, plus I think he said some stuff that was really necessary to say and things that I didn't necessarily get across on the song that I felt added to it."
