Months before the Manny Pacquiao-Amir Khan fight, Oscar de la Hoya revealed that "Rap God" rapper Eminem does have a boxing history. With this, boxing and rap music fans could not help but fancy a match between the Filipino boxer and the Detroit rapper.
"The late great Emanuel Steward, who trained me for maybe about four or five fights, he once showed me a video where he was training Eminem," de la Hoya said during a recent appearance on DJ Whoo Kid's show "The Whoolywood Shuffle" on Shade 45, which is Eminem's uncut hip-hop channel. "Man, he had some moves."
De la Hoya went on to praise Eminem's boxing skills. According to the boxer, the rapper was punching the hand mitts and he looked "really good" and "with a lot of power."
It appears that de la Hoya is open to a charity boxing match with Eminem. The former jokingly said that he could come down in weight.
Eminem was supposed to play Billy "The Great" Hope in the 2015 sports drama film "Southpaw." The character is an undefeated professional boxer, which was played by Jake Gyllenhaal.
In another interview with Omnisport, as cited by Boxing Scene, de la Hoya expressed his support for Khan over Pacquiao. Pacquiao defeated de la Hoya in the professional boxing welterweight superfight titled "The Dream Match," which was held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in las Vegas, Nevada, on Dec. 6, 2008.
For de la Hoya, Khan has a great chance to defeat Pacquiao. De la Hoya added that he had always believed in Khan.
Pacquiao and Khan's fight was originally scheduled on April 23. However, Top Rank Boxing CEO Bob Arum recently revealed that the match will be moved a month later.
Arum told ABS-CBN News that they did not have enough time. He added that that were out of time as far as April 22 or April 23 was concerned so when they explored May 19 or May 20, they thought they had a better date.
