Trump Bans Immigrants, China Takes Advantage by Extending Visa Rules to Five Years

Baidu CEO Robin Li says China should attract foreign talent that Trump does not want in the U.S.

China will be implementing new visa rules to foreign talent in the country by extending work permits to five years. This will change the old rule on one-year validity.

The new China visa rules will apply to workers who have been in China for two consecutive years and are employed on multi-year contracts. The policy is welcomed by Baidu chief Robin Li.

There will be "demonstration sites for innovative reform" in a total of nine cities and provinces. These sites will include Beijing, Wuhan and Hebei, and 11 free trade zones in Tianjin, Chongqing and Henan Province.

Li believes that Beijing should relax rules on foreign talent to attract more to come in. This way, a top international talent that is ostracized by Trump's immigration policy will be more inclined to work in China.

The Baidu big boss also said that the opportunity is great for technology companies in China to attract talent from their competitors in Silicon Valley.

Meanwhile, the anti-immigrant policy of the Trump administration is not showing any signs of easing up. Recently, mayors of local governments expressed frustration over Trump's policies.

Santa Fe Mayor Javier Gonzales said, "We know that having welcoming, inclusive societies in our communities is the key formula for having a higher quality of life and more productivity when it comes to the economy."

The mayor spoke about the U.S. President's foreign policy and the contribution of immigrants in Santa Fe. President Trump wants mayors to help the police in arresting illegal aliens.

Philadelphia Mayor James Kenney said, "If you participate in enabling the bully and give them support to be a bigger bully than they already are, then you are a bully, too."

He added, "I'm not going to throw any of our immigrant community under the bus because we have a president who is a demagogue."
