Logan will serve as the last Wolverine spin-off starring Hugh Jackaman and Patrick Stewart and directed by James Mangold.

Over the weekend, “Logan” earned $37.7 million in its China exhibition, bringing to $37.7 million its total box-office earnings in the country. It was for the second week that the Hugh Grant-starrer topped China’s box office.

Mutants in Different Forms

In the U.S., ScreenRant made a new “Logan” concept art showcasing the mutant leads of the hit movie, Comicbook reported. The images by Christian Cordella highlight the mutant leads in different forms, although he emphasized Professor Xavier (Patrick Steward) and Laura (Dafne Keene).

The art work do not seem very different from what was seen onscreen in the cinemas. But in one image, Laura wore frilly clothes such as a hoodie over a pale yellow shirt with a unicorn design. In another shot, she had a brown overcoat on top of a pale blue shirt and jeans, while a third image shows her Wolverine claws. The art work includes Wolverine, Caliban and Xavier.

Pet Owners Boost “A Dog’s Purpose”

“A Dog’s Purpose” came in second with $36.1 million earnings over the weekend. It increased to $53.7 million the sentimental film’s earnings after 10 days of showing in China. China Youth Daily, a state-run media, explained the strong showing of the animal movie to the number of dog owners in China going up, LA Times reported.

It helped Amblin Entertainment, owned by Steven Spielberg, that the production company has Alibaba Pictures as its partner in promoting “A Dog’s Purpose” in China by using Taopiaopiao, the popular online ticket platform of the Chinese e-commerce giant.

In third place is “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter” which earned $13.9 million for a total $153.4 million during its 17-day run. “Kingsgaive: Final Fantasy XV,” a Japanese animated movie, is in fourth place with box-office receipts of $3 million. In fifth place is “Sing” which grossed $1.9 million that added to its $29.9 million 24-day total.
