After receiving much pressure from the Shanghai price regulator, more than 60 chain stores and restaurants in two airports and Disneyland at Shanghai have pledged for fair pricing. The outlets pledged to keep their prices at par with the prices in other outlets in the city, according to a report by the state-run Xinhua News Agency.
Upon the opening of the Disney Resort on June 2016, more tourists have become attracted to visit Shanghai. The resort has also contributed to an increase in the number of passengers in Shanghai airports. In turn, properties in the area have also increased in value.
A large number of consumers have been complaining about unreasonable high prices to the Shanghai Development and Reform Commission. Complaints state that dining in the airports and in Disney Resort was usually much more expensive compared to other restaurants.
On Wednesday, the outlets in the Pudong and Hongqiao international airports and Shanghai Disney Resort became united in living the campaign named "Same City, Same Price."
The establishments are owned by more than 20 international food chains. Among these giants are Costa, KFC, McDonald's, Subway, Pacific Coffee and Family Mart.
The campaign was launch alongside the celebration of the World Consumer Rights Day when China begins its annual campaign to increase consumer rights awareness.
According to the Shanghai Commission, it will carry on its mission to protect consumer rights. The commission also encouraged the public and companies to get involved in its campaign.
Big shopping malls, including building material and furniture wholesale stores B&Q and IKEA were also urged by the commission to be vigilant against consumer rights violations.
Among common violations is cheating on price. The commission is demanding the companies to repay and compensate consumers when they pay more than the store promotional prices.
Thanks to the unrelenting efforts of Shanghai's price regulator to protect consumer rights, locals and tourists alike now can be assured of fair pricing in Shanghai establishments.
