Is Marvel making an R-rated superhero movie soon?

| Apr 30, 2017 12:09 PM EDT

Ryan Reynolds played the lead character of Wade Wilson in “Deadpool” movie.

"Deadpool" is the first living proof that an R-rated movie can still pack a punch at the box office. 20th Century Fox found success with the release of R-rated superhero starting with Ryan Reynolds' "Deadpool" and followed with Hugh Jackman's "Logan" in 2017. Although Marvel Studios has achieved the same amount of success (if not more) even without the full-on violence and explicit language, is it possible that Marvel will release an R-rated movie to compete? The answer is no, and it's most likely because Captain America would not approve.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kevin Feige said that Marvel does not intend to make an R-rated movie. So Captain America didn't have any say on this, but it's clear that Marvel's head honcho doesn't want to partake in excessive movie violence and unfiltered dialogue.

"My takeaway from both of those films is not the R rating; it's the risk they took, the chances they took, the creative boundaries that they pushed," Feige explained, referring to "Deadpool" and "Logan." "That should be the takeaway for everyone."

He added that it's not particularly the violence and R-ratedness that made these two films a huge hit, but cited Deadpool's fourth-wall-breaking and Wolverine's final outing as the primary reasons why the movies stood out.

It's not just Feige who isn't sold on making an R-rated movie for Marvel. Disney CEO Bob Iger also revealed that they have no plans to create an R-rated superhero movie in the future, Movie Web reported. After all, Marvel Studios has seen a steady stream of success with their PG-13 movies, with the statistics getting better and better with every Marvel movie. So why change the winning formula?

There are, however, several storylines from the Marvel comics that would make for a solid R-rated movie, such as "Planet Hulk" "Spider-Man: Reign," "Fury Max My War Gone By" and "Punisher Max."

Meanwhile, Feige also confirmed that Tom Holland will be back as Spider-Man in "Avengers 4" and a sequel to "Spider-Man: Homecoming" has been scheduled for 2019.
