Filming for "Luke Cage" Season 2 will begin very soon, reports confirmed. Sources revealed that the second season of the Marvel/Netflix series will begin filming in June 2017, nine months after the first season debuted in September 2016 on Netflix.
"Luke Cage" Season 1 was regarded by many as Marvel's best TV series to air, even trumping critically-acclaimed shows "Daredevil" and "Jessica Jones." The show's lead star, Mike Colter, first appeared as the bulletproof Luke Cage in "Jessica Jones" Season 1, where he appeared as friend and ally to Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones.
According to Comicbook, Colter confirmed that principal photography for "Luke Cage" Season 2 will begin in June 2017 and the filming will wrap up by March 2018. This means that the sophomore season of the Marvel show is expected to arrive on Netflix in mid or late 2018.
Simone Missick, who plays Misty Knight on "Luke Cage," also made a social media post confirming the filming schedule for the show. She revealed that she had begun working out to reprise her role in the second season.
Aside from Luke Cage and Misty Knight, the plot and character details for "Luke Cage" Season 2 still remain hidden. However, recent character description sent to casting agencies give a hint as to who the big bad in Season 2 could be.
One character is named Byron and described as "the smartest man any room, the most effortlessly powerful man in any situation." He is also said to be a "natural leader, brimming with resentment." According to Comicbookmovie, Byron is rumored to be Caribbean crime boss John McIver, a.k.a Bushmaster, who had run-ins with Luke Cage and Iron Fist in the comics.
Another character, Tamara, is described as "a brilliant, confident business owner who prides herself on her independence." It is speculated that Tamara is Luke's sister, a re-adaptation of James Lucas Jr., Luke's brother in the comics.
Luke Cage is one of the four superheroes joining "The Defenders" on Netflix. The highly anticipated superhero team up is set for release on Aug.18.
