A movie adaptation of Mark Millar and Sean Gordon Murphy's graphic novel "Chrononauts" has been ordered by Universal Pictures.

The "Chrononauts" movie is in active development so far, with screenwriter Philip Gawthorne having been tapped by Universal to helm the script, and with Chris Morgan of the "Fast & Furious" franchise attached to produce, Deadline reported. Millar and Murphy are executive producers.

"Chrononauts" is a time-traveling adventure that follows fun-loving, scientific geniuses Corbin Quinn and Danny Reilly as they take on the world's first time-travel experiment. According to Gizmodo, Millar explained that the idea for the story came from a Universal executive who asked him to write a story with Chris Pratt and Chris Hemsworth in mind as playing the duo.

Although casting for "Chrononauts" is still pretty much up in the air, having Pratt and Hemsworth on board is not far-fetched at all. As a matter of fact, Millar has ties to Marvel since, after all, he is the writer of the "Civil War" storyline, which became the inspiration for "Captain America: Civil War."

Pratt and Hemsworth themselves appear to be well-suited for role, with both having an experience in the comedy department. Pratt's comedic roots trace from "Parks and Recreation," while Hemsworth was able to showcase his comedic chops in the 2016 "Ghostbusters" remake. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, their characters have also been portrayed as having a knack for jokes and wisecracks.

"Chrononauts" is a highly anticipated adaptation, especially since a lot of Millar's comic book creations have been adapted into movies that were critically acclaimed and well received, such as "Kick-Ass" and "Kingsman: The Secret Service."

Meanwhile, Hemsworth and Pratt will star together in "Avengers: Infinity War." In a recent interview, Pratt teased that "people are going to lose their minds" when they see "Avengers: Infinity War," and described the movie as crazy and "pretty awesome." The entire Guardians of the Galaxy will appear in "Infinity War."

This year, Hemsworth and Pratt also have their own Marvel movies coming up. Pratt's "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will be out May 5, while Hemsworth's "Thor: Ragnarok" will hit theaters later this November.
