Fans are officially getting an "Edge of Tomorrow 2," which is a sequel to the 2014 hit sci-fi film starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. According to reports, Cruise came upon a solid idea for the sequel which will also include Blunt.
Speaking to director Doug Liman, Collider found out that the sequel will be titled "Live Die Repeat and Repeat." Although an unusual choice for the sequel's title, it does reflect the events that transpired in the first film where Cruise's character is caught in a time loop. It is also reminiscent to the initial title of "Edge of Tomorrow," which was "All You Need is Kill," the same title as the Japanese science fictional novel the movie is based on.
Furthermore, Liman revealed that both Cruise and Blunt are very excited about "Edge of Tomorrow 2." The official timetable for the film, however, has not been decided yet.
The story for the sequel will be unlike any other sequel the audience has ever seen, Liman teased. "I had these intellectual ideas on how you should make a sequel that are unlike how anybody else makes a sequel," Liman revealed. "So it's gonna revolutionize how people make sequels."
Since "Edge of Tomorrow 2" is basically "a sequel that's a prequel," Blunt can definitely reprise her role as Rita Vrataski who died in the first film.
Given Cruise's and Blunt's busy schedules, it is unlikely that the film can begin production soon. Cruise is currently filming "Mission: Impossible 6," wherein he has been spotted filming in various locations in Paris. "Mission: Impossible 6" will premiere in theaters on July 27, 2018.
On the other hand, Blunt is filming "Mary Poppins Returns," where she will portray the titular character once played by Julie Andrews in 1964. According to Mirror, Blunt is already getting praise for her portrayal of the iconic character, and with original star Dick Van Dyke saying "Emily's going to be a good Mary."
"Mary Poppins Returns" also stars Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Colin Firth and Meryl Streep. Van Dyke will also appear in the film.
