Disney film "Cinderella" starred Lily James as the title character and Richard Madden as Prince.

The live-action adaptation of the classic fairy tale “Cinderella” dominated the Chinese box-office records during the week ending March 15, pulling out a whopping 162 million yuan few days after its release on Friday.

The adventure-fantasy is top-billed by Lily James as Princess Ella. James is known for her role as Lady Rose MacClare in the period drama "Downtown Abbey."

Critically acclaimed Cate Blanchett ("Blue Jasmine," "Elizabeth") plays the role of Lady Tremaine, Cinderella's antagonistic stepmother, while Scottish actor Richard Madden ("Game of Thrones") lands on the role of Prince Charming.

Disney's latest fairy tale adaptation took the lead over another Disney production, the award-winning "Big Hero 6" based on a well-loved Marvel superhero team of the same name.

The Oscar's Best Animated Feature, which popularized the iconic Baymax, a robot-cum-nurse character, gathered a total of 442 million yuan worth of ticket sales since its premiere on Feb. 28, according to a China Film News report.

Still behind the 3D animation feature is the fantasy-adventure "Jupiter Ascending" starring Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum. Since its March 6 debut, the film has already earned 256 million yuan.

The "Man from Macau II" and "Wolf Totem" secured the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.

The family comedy "Man from Macau II," which stars Chow Yun-fat, has garnered a gross of 68 million yuan for the recent week ending March 15, adding up to a total of 957 million yuan since its Feb. 19 premiere.

"Wolf Totem," released on the same day as "Man from Macau II," took in another 48 million yuan, making the film's gross revenue reach a 682-million-yuan mark.
