The much awaited “Empire” season 1 finale, which is a two-hour episode, has finally hit the small screens on Wednesday.

In signature show finale fashion, the audience will have to brace themselves for explosive revelations and major plot twists to pave the way for Season 2’s storyline.

It was revealed that Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) did not have ALS, or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis after all. Instead, the double vision that he had was actually a symptom of MG, or Myasthenia Gravis. Since MG is a treatable condition, Lucious no longer faces imminent death. The hallucinations that he had were caused by the sedatives that were prescribed for his insomnia.

Although Lucious tells everyone that he is not going to die soon, he did not change his mind with regards to naming one of his sons as his successor. However, he did give each member of his family a token, as reported by E! Online.

Cookie Lyon (Taraji Henson) had to join forces with Anika Calhoun (Grace Gealey) despite their hate for each other, in order to take Lucious down. Vernon Turner, played by Malik Yoba, would have been the star witness to put Lucious in prison for good. Lucious was arrested shortly before his concert and everything would have gone according to Cookie’s plan. However, Vernon could no longer testify against Lucious because he was killed by Rhonda Lyon (Kaitlin Doubleday).

“Well, I guess it was a cliffhanger,” co-creator Danny Strong told Deadline. “We only have vague notions for next season. We are just starting to break the season. I’m just not crazy about talking about what we are doing next season because the process is, literally, just beginning.”
