In a digital world where in most people are almost connected on their smartphones 24/7, audience has became more dependent on these devices in order to get informed. Thus, making social media and the internet a powerful tool for informing the masses.

Together with this technological advancement, Facebook became one of the leading social media sites having an average of 1.4 billion users worldwide.

This fact, made Facebook a good place for sharing information and content. Thus giving them an advantage to offer their social media structure to be used by leading news sites.

New York Times reported that their news company and Facebook are almost close into sealing a deal that would elevate how news content could be hosted and enjoyed.

BuzzFeed and National Geographic are also courted by Facebook as initial partners for their new development.

Should this deal continue, the news sites will have their content exclusively hosted on Facebook, according to The Next Web.

This will give Facebook power over the news site's content, and allows the content to be visible to the billion-wide user base of the social media giant.

Facebook promises these news sites that the new third-party format will make news consumption faster and more efficient. It will still be linked on the news site's main page but the page loading experience will be noticeably faster.

To lure more news publishers on the new format, Facebook even promises them a portion of the earning they'll get from ads.

This new structure for news consumption is headed by Facebook's Chief Product Officer Chris Cox.
