Facebook launched a dedicated URL for users wanting to use the messenger on various web browsers following the imposed Messenger app installation on mobile phones as Facebook users must download the app in order to chat their friends using their smartphones.

Facebook is the largest social networking site for almost a decade. Through the years, it managed to add ease to the entire experience by rolling out various tools at the most critical moments. Following the acquisition of WhatsApp by the social networking giant and the subsequent launch of WhatsApp web facilities, there were talks of launching a desktop version of the Facebook Messenger.

Moreover, it is felt that this dedicated online interface would ensure that users enjoy a hassle free chat experience without the constant interference of updates on the Newsfeed, Quartz India reported. Moreover, it provides the option of turning on the desktop notification wherein a small pop up on the screen notifies the user of a new message. Furthermore, clarifying the stand on present messaging services, it was remarked that users would still be able to send messages using Facebook.com.

However, the app still lacks the option to record and send audios or share pictures directly using the webcam, it is felt that this move is all set to provide Facebook avenues to distinguish its apps from normal messaging apps.

Moreover, with over 600 million users every month, Facebook tops the list of the most viewed sites in a day. Tech Crunch stated that this traffic tops during the day time or more precisely at mid day. It adds that most people surf social network from their work computers and the provision of a desktop app is bound to attract more number of loyal followers.
