Mom wakes up from coma

In what can easily be termed as one of the rare medical miracles, a pregnant woman who had slipped into coma months ago with little or no hope of ever gaining consciousness has woken up.

Doctors attending Sharista Giles were forced to deliver the baby a month later. It was indeed a touching moment for all when Giles fondled the hands of one of her relatives and followed the movements of her father in the room, ABC News reported.

Sharista Giles was five months pregnant when she was brought to the University of Tennessee Medical Center last December following a car accident. Doctors then had ruled out any chances of her ever gaining consciousness though family members said they had never given up hope. Giles was then shifted to the Harriman Care and Rehabilitation Center in March.

Family and friends rushed to the center after learning she has opened her eyes. The baby was delivered prematurely in January and was just 2 pounds then but has grown to be 6 pounds and 4 ounce now. Baby L - as the boy is being referred to as right now - continues to be under close supervision at the neonatal intensive care unit Tennessee Medical Center.

Family members look forward to introducing Baby L to his mother as soon as he is released from Tennessee Medical Center, DailyMail mentioned.

Doctors though have stated its too early to come to any sort of conclusion right now even though they admit of Giles having made tremendous progress so far.

Giles had met with the devastating accident in December when the driver of the car she was in had fallen asleep at the wheels. The car went on to hit a concrete block leaving Giles in a state of coma.

In somewhat of a similar incident that occurred only just a few days back, a man who met with a severe motorcycle accident and has been on life support system with next to no hope of getting back to life has woken up again. Matt Davis has been married just 7 months when he met with the near fatal accident. Doctors had given up hope and had advised of letting Matt die though Danielle Josey Davis, his wife just refused to let up. Seems she has been amply rewarded of her perseverance.
